The Journey TRULY is the Destination
Hey Y’all! Alex Here!
This is kind of long, but hear me out. Do you know what the wishing rocks are? If you don’t, then I’m about to tell ya! The wishing rocks are a pile of boulders stacked on top of each other; just a stone’s throw away from the Dan Eldon Center for Creative Activism. These boulders are MAGIC. Yes I said it magic. When you first walk up to them you find the ONE rock that speaks to you and claim it for your own. You and your rock will from then on out have a special bond. While sitting on the rock there are a few requirements. One does not simply just SIT on the rock. While there you must search your soul. You must reflect on your life and ask yourself questions. After a few minutes of contemplation and soul searching, you are to make a wish. Kathy and Amy both swear that is the reason why they were blessed with such amazing husbands and such a growing and inspirational organization.
The reason I tell you this is because I am about to get real and tell you of the trip I took the other day. While sitting on my perfectly placed rock looking out over the Pacific Ocean I began to think in depth about where I was in the world and where I was on my own journey in life. Do you ever notice that not many of us enjoy the now? Have you ever noticed that so many people are so focused on where they are going that they forget to stop, look around, and enjoy the things around them? That’s what I began to realize. Yes I am about to be a senior in college and this is the time when I should REALLY be thinking about my future and the crazy next few years I am about to partake in, but I can’t help but feel that I am so often wasting the time that I have and not experiencing the journey. Let’s be real, Dan Eldon said it best, “The Journey is the Destination.”
For some reason I have always had the “grass is always greener on the other side” mentality. Have you noticed that within yourself? Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “What if I had gone here?”, “What if I had done that instead?” rather than truly experiencing the moment that you are in? Well if you have, then this is the challenge I give to you and the challenge I gave myself. I challenge us to not put so much focus on the “what if’s” and the “I can’t wait until’s”. I challenge us to start putting the focus on what you are doing RIGHT NOW. Put focus on the people that are in your life right now. ENJOY YOURSELF! HAVE FUN! Don’t miss out on the life you are living just waiting for the life that is to come or the life that you don’t have. Don’t forget that every second wishing for something else is a second wasted on being excited about the life you are living RIGHT NOW!
It is my belief that anyone can create their own form of “wishing rock”. Just find a place that brings you peace and makes you ALIVE. My wish was to be happy, smile more, laugh more, hug more, and love more. What will your wish be?
Abrazos y Besos,
