Book Review: The Journey is the Destination: The Journals of Dan Eldon (Hardcover)
Dan Eldon attended St. Martins School, Mill Hill London England as a young boy. In dedication to his memory St.Martins School has awarded an annual prize for the last 2 years to the child who has shown outstanding personal qualities through dedication and hard work during the academic year. My daughter Emily (aged 11) was priviledged to have been awarded the Dan Eldon prize this year. His memory lives on through many children in London who have been at St.Martins School and we are honoured to be associated with such a fine young man. His book is a history of a unique young life which although tragically cut short at an early age was not wasted. |

Four volunteers traveled to Cura recently to work and play with the Home's children, both in school and out. We delivered educational, athletic, technological, health and cooking supplies that are all being put to excellent use by the school, the Home and the community leaders.
On the US side, two fundraisers have been enormous successes: the premiere of The Sorcerer's Apprentice raised enough money to build a secondary school for the village, and a Seattle-area organic farm dinner raised enough to add a rabbit hutch to the Home existing livestock enclosure. |

Summer 2010
Our Healing Sounds team has recently returned from Paraguay after 10 days of filming with members of the organization, 'Sounds of the Earth'. The work of composer Luis Szaran, his team and students inspired us to produce a documentary about how music is used by these individuals to educate and empower the lives of thousands of underprivileged children in Paraguay.
During this first trip we captured their daily struggles as well as some of their achievements. We will be editing a trailer in the upcoming weeks, which will be used to raise funds towards a feature-length documentary.
During our second trip we aim to capture new students from very low income families, and their struggle to become part of the orchestra. We also plan to explore how the orchestra prepares for a concert they have been invited to perform in Europe. |

The Dan Eldon Traveling Exhibit made a stop in Taos, New Mexico. During the short stay, approximately 900 people, including school classes and youth groups, visited. Many viewers returned to absorb the full impact of the exhibit and all were inspired and touched by Dan's life. The exhibit was sponsored by Gayle Montgomery's Full Circle Studio and funded by a grant from the Taos County Commissioners.
The opening reception was phenomenal! Eighteen local restaurants prepared and donated crowd-pleasing appetizers. Kathy Eldon, Gayle Montgomery and Lyn Rosati gave brief talks. Inspired by Dan's generosity, Lynn has created a "Art for Change" program where Taos locals and visitors will be asked to empty their pocket change (in the spirit of Dan) to purchase art supplies for youth groups and schools.
Bill Egsieker, a St. Louis singer-songwriter, debuted his song, "Dan's Dreams." The exhibit was followed by a collage journaling workshop facilitated by Gayle. Twenty local youth were selected to participate. Each received a journal, art supplies and both of the Dan Eldon books ("The Journey is the Destination" and "The Art of Life").
Gayle Montgomery still donates 30% of all proceeds of her "Safari Series," based on Dan's philosophy that "Life is a Safari" to the Creative Visions Foundation. Please visit her at: The Full Circle Studio.

Artist, Gayle Montgomery, Gallery Opening — Exhibit is Inspired by the Life and Death of Dan Eldon
Gayle Montgomery's 22 collages are dedicated to and inspired by the life and death of Dan Eldon. Dan was Reuter's youngest photojournalist and was killed in Somalia on July 12, 1993 at the age of twenty-two. He and other journalists arrived at the scene of a U.N. bombing of the suspected headquarters of Mohammed Farah Aidid. Innocents were killed and the mob that remained reacted drastically to the arrival of the journalists; four were killed. Dan achieved prominence for his war photography, but his talents were many. He left behind seventeen journals filled to overflowing with miscellaneous photos, collages, drawings and assorted writings to document his short but productive life. It was these journals and his philosophy that 'safari is a way of life' that inspired Gayle Montgomery's series. The twenty-two collages represent Dan's twenty-two years of life and each piece is Gayle's interpretation of life's many safaris.
Art Divas Gallery is located at 208 Paseo del Pueblo Norte in Taos, New Mexico. Please contact Gayle or visit her web site The Full Circle Studio to purchase Safari art. |
